Marie Delprat

Marie Delprat has dared to break out of the musical world she was trained in. For a long time, she played baroque music on the Paetzold flute and in early music ensembles. But she wasn’t happy with that alone and needed a second foothold in a radical parallel musical world. In the production «Rage(s)» (Marie Delprat, music and Olive Lopez, performance), which premiered at the Dampfzentrale in 2020, she was discovered for the first time as an exponent of music between noise, dark ambient and drone music. This performance was also the initial spark for Delprat to consider playing live electronic music outside the framework of a choreographed production, and instead as a pure concert. She did this for the first time in 2021, again at the Dampfzentrale, as part of the SONIC MOUNTAINS – Swiss Noise & Sound Culture. A year later, she staged an elaborate, space-filling project, «LIMBO», both an immersive live sound installation and a concert, created by a collective that included two musicians, a set designer and a sound engineer. In 2023, she finally christened her first recording Life Is Sick at an event organised by the Bern-based label unvague. «Ethereal Realms – all fiction is metaphor» is a solo by Marie Delprat as part of a performative installation inspired by Ursula K. Le Guin’s 1969 feminist science fiction novel «The Left Hand of Darkness». The project premiered in March 2024. Amidst a contrasting landscape of sound and space, between baroque and electronic, it reflects on the complexity of identity and connection.

In 2020, Marie Delprat won the Musikpreis Coup de Coeur des Kantons Bern.
