In Project #19 “Evolution” the Variaton Project Orchestra deals with man and machine.
Man as a feeling, thinking and creative being is confronted with developments that he himself has driven forward: Man as a servant of technology – always in search of profit and efficiency instead of guided by enthusiasm, curiosity and creativity.

Under the artistic direction of Droujelub Yanakiew, Variaton musically spans the spectrum from deeply emotional orchestral movements by Mascagni, Pärt and Takemitsu to machine music in the truest sense of the word: the program also includes Arthur Honegger’s snorting steam locomotive setting “Pacific 231” or Alexander Mossolov’s impressive “Eisengiesserei”.

In “Evolution,” Variaton collaborates with Brazilian-Swiss photo and video artist Diego Saldiva. His visual worlds, together with the music, explore the emotional world of man confronted with the technologized world he himself has created.
After all, isn’t the question at the end really: where does the machine end, where does the human being begin?

Programm
