In 2020, the Konus Quartet is searching for new musical inspiration. Its members have, therefore, invited the composer and electronic musician Sam Pluta to write a composition for saxophone quartet and live electronics. Through many years of experience playing with trumpeter Peter Evans and pianist Craig Taborn or as a member of Evan Parker’s Electroacoustic Ensemble, Pluta offers a great deal of sensitivity and proficiency. The concert will see him utilising live processing techniques, thereby interacting with the ensemble’s newly created technical setup. Similar to their collaboration with the drummer Martin Brandlmayr three years ago, the Quintet is forging new ground somewhere between contemporary improvised and jazz-related sounds.

Tobias Pfeil, the evening’s support act, is a young composer, performer and installation artist from Oslo, who is currently studying with Simon Steen-Andersen in Bern. While finding the perfect balance between acoustic music, electronics and performance, Pfeil incorporates light, video, text and 3D animation into his work. His collaborative partners include Thurston Moore and Jenny Hval.
