PLESCHURABL, PLÄSCHARABL, PLLÄSCHA – HOW ON EARTH DO YOU PRONOUNCE THAT?

Pleasurable: A word that may be tricky to pronounce for some. When trying, pay attention to the way your tongue and lips move. And? What did it feel like? This interplay between saliva, tongue, teeth and lips is the essence of what the 16th edition of the international dance festival Tanz in Bern is all about. Supposedly correct pronunciation cannot stand in the way of this joy for the tongue. «pleasurable»: from simple everyday delights and the satisfaction of various needs to the decadent pursuit of ultimate gratification – the concept of pleasure covers a wide spectrum and is often viewed with ambivalence. On the one hand, enjoyment, joy and pleasure are considered to be the essential ingredients of a fulfilling life. On the other hand, they are frequently dismissed as excessive or inappropriate and criticised as hedonistic or self-indulgent.

Tanz in Bern embraces a topic where contradictions – as is always the case with us – are the rule rather than the exception.
