Psychedelic pop toward a utopian future
Last year, they were supposed to play at Saint Ghetto. Postponed. The same this May. Now it’s third time lucky: And this time as a Sunday matinee as well as the closing act of the Saint Ghetto Festival 2021.
The retro-futuristic pop universe of the multinational London combo Vanishing Twin is situated where the comical and cosmic meet. Retro, because it’s inspired by cinematic and sound elements of the 1970s as well as the sound worlds of the British bands Broadcast and Stereolab; futuristic, because it’s pervaded by an unheard, psychedelic soundscape that runs like a thread through the releases. Meanwhile, the stoically calming vocals of front woman Cathy Lucas tell of childhood wisdom, the boredom of truths or the absorbing of a twin into your own body.
In the autumn, «Choose Your Own Adventure» (2016) and «The Age Of Immunology» (2019) will be followed by the combo’s third LP «Ookii Gekkou».
