Anna Göldi was the last woman executed for witchcraft in Europe in 1782. Her story is rooted in themes of gender oppression, power abuse and systemic injustice. Topics that resonates today as women and minorities continue to battle disbelief, harassment, and societal expectations.
Using contemporary dance to draw parallels between her persecution in 1782 and the struggles women and minorities face today through the movement of a single dancer embodying two characters : Anna Göldi “Then” and Anna Göldi “Now”, portraying the physical and psychological dimensions of escape—from literal persecution to the modern pressures of societal judgment and self-repression. A project aiming to resonate in each and everyone to raise questions about the evolution of our societies and the battles that are still yet to be fought
