The Austrian composer Wolfgang Mitterer creates a work commissioned by the Bern University of the Arts, which unites students from the fields of jazz and classical music together on stage at Dampfzentrale. The result is a bespoke and genre-spanning opus based on a combination of improvisation and pre-notated actions. At text level, parts of John Milton’s epic poem «Paradise Lost», published in 1667, are reproduced.

In an initial project phase, the students will be actively involved in the conception and creation of the work through brainstorming and idea generation. Playtime 2022 will present the result of this exciting collaboration between one of the most innovative composers of our age and students of Bern University of the Arts, who – from New Zealand and South Korea to Portugal and Switzerland – come not only stylistically and artistically but also geographically from all four corners of the world.

The evening will open by a free session with a promising line-up: Wolfgang Mitterer (piano), Tom Arthurs (trumpet) Ernesto Molinari (bass clarinet), Loïc Baillod (bass), Damien Kuntz (drums).
