Due to Covid- and Brexit-related difficulties in leaving the UK, the four band members of Vanishing Twin have decided with a heavy heart to cancel their double concert on May 21 and 22 at Dampfzentrale.
Where weird and cosmic touch, the retro-futuristic pop universe of the multinational London combo Vanishing Twin unfolds. Retro because inspired by cinematic and sonic elements of the 1970s, as well as the sound worlds of British bands Broadcast and Stereolab; futuristic because infused with an unheard psychedelic soundscape that runs like a ribbon through the releases. Meanwhile, the stoically calm voice of frontwoman Cathy Lucas tells of childish wisdom, the boredom of truths or of swallowed twins.
Jon Hood from Lucerne play mystical, sensual music, permeated by light and magic, characterized by the voice of Joan Seiler, which even whispers through and tells smaller and larger stories about physical meaning or tearful environments and the longing for the intangible. There is a lot of air in the compositions, a lot of space, which is used without fear of emptiness and leaves room to enter the sound world and look around there, maybe even dance a little. If there is krautrock on the horizon or avant-garde folk, then with Jon Hood it is not chumming up quotes, but alert ears that make precise decisions. Their debut album Body Semantics was produced by former Dampfzentrale Associated Artist Merz and was released in 2017 on Zurich’s Red Brick Chapel label.
