The Underground Fashion Show Bern has found, created, and cultivated a real niche: young designers, performers, models—in short, people from all over Switzerland who are interested in fashion—are coming together for the fourth time this year to create an unforgettable evening in a low-threshold collective process.

The Underground Fashion Show Bern brings together resources to give all participants access to a platform that they would not have on their own. The exchange of diverse artistic working methods, styles, and qualities is what makes the UFS so special and valuable for participants and audiences alike. This exchange is repeatedly visible in encounters that spontaneously or over time turn into collaborations: thanks to the networking opportunities provided by the UFS, numerous projects have already emerged in unforeseen constellations. For example, it is standard practice for the organizing team to help connect designers and models who have applied via the open call, so teams are repeatedly formed beyond existing contacts.

Thanks to its self-organization and the diverse influences of all participants, the UFS program offers enormous breadth: in addition to catwalk, there is also performances, choreography, live music, and spoken word, which expand, contextualize, and enrich the evening. It is particularly important not to judge the applications received in the open call—neither in terms of aesthetics, nor in terms of skills or training. In the past two editions, everyone who expressed interest within the application deadline was able to participate in the UFS. Everything is based on people volunteering their time, recommended prices, and solidarity.
