Eisa Jocson is an internationally renowned Filipino dance and performance artist. She explores the relationship between gender and politics from the socioeconomic perspective of her country of origin. To mark the anniversary of Tanz in Bern, she is presenting a special double bill:
“Macho Dancer” will be complemented by the Swiss premiere of the performance lecture “Corponomy”. “Macho Dancer” entices with circling, slow hip movements. This dance technique is performed exclusively by men in Manila’s nightclubs. Jocson transforms her body, allows her muscles to play, and blurs the boundaries between the genders. Her Macho Dancer, previously performed in Bern in 2014, still beguiles audiences all over the world. In 2016, it was in the video for “How do you like my cut?” by the musician Peaches.
In the performance lecture “Corponomy”, the artist give insights into her work and body archive. Without words, Jocson demonstrates how this process inscribes itself in the body, from “Death of the Pole Dancer” (2011), “Macho Dancer” (2013), “Host” (2015) to “Princess” (2017).
