The Body & Dis Fig

The fusion of The Body & Dis Fig makes a lot of sense. Both acts have a history of creating recognizable and distinct soundscapes that defy traditional categorization or delineation. The Body – Lee Buford and Chip King – continually challenge any conventional notion of metal, for example by collaborating with artists from other genres (e.g. BIG|BRAVE, Assembly Light Choir, OAA, Thou).

Meanwhile, Dis Fig aka Felicia Chen pushes electronic music and performance to dark extremes – from distorted DJ sets to avant-garde productions; as a solo artist, as a member of Tianzhuo Chen’s performance art series «TRANCE», or as a vocalist with The Bug.

The Body & Dis Fig find their common denominator in trying to redefine what it could mean to make «heavy music». Their debut Orchards of a Futile Heaven is the perfect synthesis of two forces, twisting melodicism and intoxicating rhythms, layering a dense miasma of distortion with intense beats and a voice both smooth and raw.

Ka Baird

Ka Baird is an American composer, sound designer and trained pianist and flutist. They perform their powerful, sometimes disturbing live shows with electronics, flute and unconventional vocal, breathing and microphone techniques. Baird creates a physically haunting, dense sound performance in the indefinable border area of experimental music and musical performing arts – and not without humor. Their albums are released on the Rvng Intl. label, which has also brought the work of Holly Herndon, Lucrecia Dalt and Helado Negro to an international audience. With Bearings, Ka Baird released an album in spring 2024 whose eleven tracks are like walking incantations, which in turn are defined by their own diversity; the emotional result of circumstances and grief.
