In our performance Die Sonne zergeht auf der Zunge, we give attention to the theme of uncertainty. We explore how uncertainty can be expressed physically and sensorially. We ask questions such as: What does uncertainty feel like? What does it sound like? How can it be made experienceable without imposing or representing it?
The title is a deliberate reference to the book of the same name by the Lebanese-French artist and author Etel Adnan. Her poetic language, in which political sharpness and personal tenderness meet, is a strong source of inspiration for us. The sun—usually a symbol of clarity and orientation—becomes here a sensorially tangible metaphor for uncertainty: it melts, dissolves, becomes invisible—on the tongue, in the moment, in the body. Just as uncertainty is diffuse, elusive, and yet remains perceptible, we play with fleeting, contradictory impressions and perceptions.
