For dinner we have a lentil stew with rice and South African Roiboos tea and a little South African surprise to digest.
At a dinner with the audience, Steven Schoch meets his mother Virginia Schoch-Andrews. Together they reflect on their shared past, with Steven trying to fill in the gaps in his knowledge about his mother and understand the complex history of his family. On this evening, they talk about growing up in South Africa during apartheid, raising three children alone in Switzerland, the divorce, but also about Steven’s now deceased trans mum and his own coming out. And last but not least, about the courage to start life all over again.
Steven and Virginia have prepared songs to accompany the individual chapters of the dialogue, which they have rehearsed with the support of musician and singer Jasmin Albash and will perform together with her.
On a Good Note is the continuation of a series of talks that Steven Schoch began in 2021 at the invitation of DOCK Basel, continued at the Kaserne Basel and is now deepening at the Dampfzentrale Bern.
