Souhail Marchiche and Mehdi Meghari are in tune with the times with their company Dyptik: classical ballet meets street art, contemporary dance meets breakdancing. What sounds like a potential clash is their recipe for success. The two hip-hop choreographers from France are thrilling audiences across Europe with their latest indoor performance, Le Grand Bal. In it, they explore the phenomenon of dance fever and how it spreads to other people.

Not far removed from isolation, social tensions and an oppressive gloom, the piece asks what happens when the body breaks out: On stage, a fever spreads, a shiver gradually overtakes the nine-member group, then finally redemption: Le Grand Bal is a ceremony of liberation. The rousing choreography puts the dancers into a trance and spills over: a collective intoxicating experience as the climax of a revolt that goes far beyond the edge of the stage.
