Spellling

After several attempts, it finally worked out – Spellling is coming to Bern! Bay Area artist Chrystia Cabral has created her own world of pop avant-garde with her previous three albums on Sacred Bones Records (including Anika, David Lynch, Jenny Hval, Pharmakon, John Carpenter), which produces great arrangements and sometimes celebrates a musical-like cheerfulness, although the lyrics deal with fear and alienation. On her latest work Portrait Of My Heart, the gloomy minimalism of her early days is no longer present, and the familiar, lushly orchestrated prog pop of her most successful album The Turning Wheel is now paired with energetic alternative rock. «Chrystia Cabral dances the line between straightforward dream pop and aquatic, experimental electronic folk, creating music that both roils the soul and inspires whimsical daydreams.» (Pitchfork)

Debby Friday

Born in Nigeria and moved to Canada, Debby Friday is a multidisciplinary artist who is primarily known as a musician, but also directs radio plays and maintains a blog for experimental writing. After releases on Deathbomb Arc (Clipping., Angry Blackmen, JPEGMAFIA), she landed a deal with indie giant Sub Pop for her debut album and promptly won the prestigious Polaris Music Prize, an annual award for the best Canadian music album. In her art, she often explores themes such as hybridity, eroticism and esotericism. Her second album The Starrr Of The Queen Of Life will be released this summer, again on Sub Pop, and Friday cites M.I.A., Death From Above and SOPHIE as sources of inspiration.
