Musician and multidisciplinary artist Blane Muise aka Shygirl, who grew up in South London, has been creating a clever mix of pop music, rap, experimental club music, dancehall or R&B for years, blurring the lines between mainstream and underground with her work. She writes songs for her own body, telling stories of relationships, sexual desires and romantic frustrations. Of being desired and at the same time being overlooked. On her Mercury Prize-winning debut album Nymph, released at the end of 2022, this spectrum of emotions comes to the fore, as does the creative haze in which the artist moves. Nymph features productions by Arca, Bloodpop, Danny L. Harle, Mura Masa and Sega Bodega, with whom Shygirl also founded the NUXXE label. Besides the late SOPHIE, Shygirl’s collaborators also include Björk, FKA twigs or Sevdaliza.
