Version 3.0 of the ongoing research on possible porous traditions – the rhythm is a memory in the present.
Lea Samira searches for traces, vibrations and dissonances in her body and in space. «spooning&entre.les montagnes» is a short piece about forgetting, repressing and remembering. By working with an unusual musical instrument, Lea Samira seeks to redefine traditional elements from a queer perspective. By deconstructing Swiss traditions, the performer sets out in search of ways in which this traditional knowledge can nourish us as a society and how exclusivity can be broken through the means of reinterpretation. In «spooning&entre.les.montagnes», Lea Samira works with the «Löffelä», a Swiss-German word that describes the practice of striking two spoons against each other to create a rhythm. Lea Samira wants to research which images, moods and feelings this practice can overlap with and what happens to them. The idea of porous tradition opens up in the critical examination of local, traditional knowledge and thus Swiss history.
Lea Samira resides at the Dampfzentrale from 18 to 19 November. A showing of their current work will take place on Tuesday, 19 November.
