Schlachthaus Theater and Dampfzentrale Bern offer masterclasses with renowned international artists and local initiatives. These are aimed at theatre and dance professionals from the Bernese and Swiss cultural scene.
Yaya Sanou regards sign language as an independent artistic form of expression. The movements of the hands, the face, and the whole body recall the aesthetics of dance. This inspired him to develop the «Vibra-Signe» technique, which enables people with disabilities to «dance» to the rhythm of music—without hearing it.
«Vibra-Signe» uses vibrations, signs, gestures, and visual forms of expression to provide people with hearing, visual, motor, or multiple disabilities with a space for artistic expression and communication. It allows them to move, spark their creativity, and strengthen their autonomy in interpreting music.
In this workshop, Yaya applies the «Vibra-Signe» technique to introduce participants to traditional Burkinabe dance as well as Afro-contemporary dance, drawing inspiration from the movements of the Bobo, Peulh, Gourissi, and Djanssa dances.
