Schlachthaus Theater and Dampfzentrale Bern offer masterclasses with renowned international artists and local initiatives. These are aimed at theatre and dance professionals from the Bernese and Swiss cultural scene.
As part of Épique! (for Yikakou), choreographer and dancer Nadia Beugré invites participants to a singular dance workshop. At its center is the concept she has coined, «Shrift» – shrinking – which refers to the strategies employed in many countries on the African continent, where citizens must reinvent the conditions for their future every day.
How, then, does one «shrink» within a space? How do we deal with the unexpected, the unforeseen, the obstacles—in order to get back on our feet, to branch out, to adapt, to find our way, to rebuild?
The workshop invites us to listen to others, to the music of their bodies, to the space, to what is visible and, above all, to what is invisible or absent: what we inherit, what we carry with us, and what we leave behind.
Together, participants will explore how to welcome the unplanned, let go, and open themselves to unfamiliar movements and perspectives.
