Lichtspiel and bar opens at 19:00

Dancing is a voluntary pleasure. But there are a few exceptions. For instance, when animals send a farmer leaping in his jumping-bean-filled boots, when Hully Gully line-dancing cowboys are commanded to dive into a pool or when the police are tasked with rhythmically maintaining order in a nightclub packed full of serving dogs and dancing cows. What else? A fairground offers the perfect backdrop for dancing between stalls; a revue-style setting provides an energetic way to rock out in French; Sundays were a rather quiet affair, especially in the past; and a swimming pool also proves to be an excellent stage. To guarantee an entertaining programme of dance and vocal entertainment, we are taking a trip through the treasures of the Lichtspiel archive.

For this year’s edition of the festival, Tanz in Bern is teaming up with its neighbours. Lichtspiel is a piece of film history in its own right: where films, cameras, projectors and other cinematographic artefacts are saved from decay, destruction and obscurity, and over a century of cinema history is told. On this festival evening, we will uncover some dancing gems from its inexhaustible archive.
