With his performance «Work Body», the Viennese choreographer Michael Turinsky seeks an answer to the general shift to the right in the working-class milieu, which is permeated by fantasies of masculinity. Building, singing, speaking, dancing, transverse to the capitalistically organised division of labour, Turinsky not only subverts the separation of mental and manual labour, but also the boundaries between choreographic intervention, concert and political agitation. A performance that challenges ingrained ideas about work, the body and productivity.

Dampfzentrale: Michael Turinsky steps onto the stage and connects with the audience through his slow, precise movements. He is a generous performer whose presence resonates deeply. We are equally enthralled by the way he creates his own aesthetic and intellectual compass. We are delighted that, following last year’s cancellation due to injury, we can now finally welcome Michael Turinsky at Tanz in Bern.

The texts for this year’s Tanz in Bern draw from two sources: firstly, what the artists themselves write about their productions, and secondly, why each performance was curated for the festival with the theme of «Mensch!».
