In her book «Every_Woman», Agota Lavoyer describes how men’s violence is not inherent in their biology, but has been taught to them. «Boys are taught from an early age to assert themselves, to be doers, not to allow feelings, not to take no for an answer, to cross boundaries, to take what they want and what they are ‹entitled› to, if necessary with coercion and violence.»

During the focus days, we want to find ways to move away from himpathy and towards herpathy. Himpathy refers to the fraternal pact in which a large number of men, who are not necessarily perpetrators themselves, support and thus maintain systemic violence against FLINTA-persons. So how can men develop a practice of herpathy? Because, in the words of sexualised violence expert Agota Lavoyer: «Sexual violence is a men’s problem». The round table is a step towards tackling this.
