A home game: musician Julian Sartorius, who has been closely associated with the Dampfzentrale for many years, will be launching his new album at the Gaswerkarealfest.

The drummer, percussionist and artist Julian Sartorius creates unheard soundscapes with his playing. His precise and multi-layered rhythmic patterns explore the possibilities of organic sound production. The sounds that Sartorius discovers in «Found Objects» and prepared instruments are reminiscent of the vocabulary of experimental electronic music.

Julian Sartorius climbs to the heights: on his new Hidden Tracks album, the drummer follows the route from the Italian village of Domodossola (272 metres above sea level) to the summit of the Weissmies (4017 metres above sea level) in Valais. The difference in altitude between these two points is 3745 metres. The musician makes this journey to the heights tangible with sounds and noises that he found on this route in the town, villages and nature with his drumsticks – and recorded with his recording device.

The hike from Domodossola to Weissmies is the vertical continuation of his first Hidden Tracks album, on which Sartorius travelled the route between Basel and Geneva in various stages with his recording device and drumsticks. Hidden Tracks: Domodossola – Weissmies is the condensed document of this hike to the heights.
