Forming sounds to test infinity

On his new album “Locked Grooves”, Bernese drummer, artist and percussionist Julian Sartorius focuses on reduction, repetition and the potential of a 1.8 second loop length. With this he tests out the structures of the infinite and enables an altered perception of time. The album will be released in July on the Zurich label -OUS and will be christened at Dampfzentrale.

The album’s 112 loops reveal a wealth of rhythmic forms – at times energetic or fragile, at times impulsive, then seductive or even driving. Sartorius’ precisely played and multilayered rhythmic patterns are meticulous explorations of hidden sounds of found objects and self-prepared instruments. The arrangements close the gap between sound art and experimental electronic music and allow for a vivid listening experience.

Following the concert, Ink! – the label head of -OUS – will play music on the forecourt of the Dampfzentrale.
