Who does the stage belong to? Four Krump dancers ask themselves this as the audience joins them in the spotlight. The piece invites onlookers to follow the movements of the dancers or to contribute their own. Rooted firmly in Afro-diasporic culture, Krump serves as a form of protest against injustice, while emphasising community and self-expression. This empowering outlook on life is brought into the theatre space and everyone can now experience it firsthand. By just watching, but also by participating and following the dancers’ lead.

The small and the large (guilty) pleasures of our everyday lives are defined by what we cannot resist or cannot help but do. «Ich kann’s nicht lassen» allows us to delve into the world of Krump dance, a dance style that is an act of joyful resistance. The energy unleashed enables the dancing audience to momentarily let go and forget the world around them. |
The texts for this year’s Tanz in Bern draw from two sources: firstly, what the artists themselves write about their productions, and secondly, how these productions relate to the festival theme pleasurable.
