As part of the Proton Proudly Presents format, Ensemble Proton invites a contemporary music ensemble from another city to Bern every year to present new sounds and projects from outside the «Proton universe» to the public of Bern. In return, Proton is later allowed to perform in the city of the invited ensemble.
This program pays tribute to two exceptional artists of the last century and brings together their soulmate worlds: Poems by the important lyricist Paul Celan and seven chamber music works by the Canadian composer Claude Vivier, who died far too young.
Although the two did not know each other and their creative periods in Paris passed close by, it is rare for the works of two artists from different disciplines to be so closely linked.
Both the poetry of Paul Celan and the music of Claude Vivier are always in search of truths, hidden in the thicket of their own thoughts and strongly influenced by their own biographies. Although both were trapped by their life stories all their lives, they created art in its purest form, detached from them.
This program is an artistic moment full of secrets, fragility and sensuality.
