Premiere celebration after the performance

Donya Speaks hereby invites you to Fête Finale!
We gather as living beings to reflect on mortality. Amidst genocide, collapse and decay, we celebrate coming together. We will hear stories in which life turns out to be on loan, an occupation of a fleeting moment in time. These stories were told to me and are remembered and embodied by me as your host. They will accompany us on our journey into the unknown, until the ‘other’ can scarcely be distinguished from the ‘self’ and the question arises: to which lives do we attach value, and to what extent?

Death and life are inextricably linked – yet why do we find it so difficult to talk about them? And when we do, how do we go about it? Donya Speaks explores these questions in her solo performance ‘Fête Finale’.

In the run-up to the performance, the artist spoke with people of different ages – each bringing their own experiences and perspectives on mortality. These voices give rise to texts and movements. The performance becomes a celebration: the audience are guests and, together with Donya Speaks, engage in a dialogue about mortality.

Amidst fizzy drinks and twinkling fairy lights, new encounters and intimate moments of connection emerge. In the silence, people dance until their flesh seems to detach from their bones. Glasses are raised, hands clasped. Through the method of «Touch Isolation», electrical circuits are formed – and with them, sounds. Haraway’s idea that ‘Homo comes from humus’ hangs in the air. Stories and bodily states overlap until the boundaries between narratives and existences become blurred.
