Christian Henking’s new composition “In eines Spiegels Bläue” ventures a look into the disjointed ego of the Austrian poet Georg Trakl and translates its madness into a polyphonic music which compares the emotional abysses of structure and the concrete. Like will-o’-the-wisps, the figures wander through the space, restlessly and unsure between places in which an object or letter fix them momentarily in the tangible world. They meet and yet remain alone. At times, music and words supplement each other and everything becomes quiet and briefly quite clear. But then the image blurs and the world goes out of whack again. Trakl’s unabashed inwards view is also a look at us and the battle against the demons that lurk inside us all.
