The Berlin-based singer-songwriter Celina Bostic is making her debut in Bern. Armed with her guitar, she will perform songs from her albums «Zu Fuss» and «Nie wieder leise».

As the child of a German mother and an African-American father growing up in Berlin, Celina Bostic learned early on to adapt in order to «belong» – always greeting people with a big friendly smile so as not to be considered the «bad foreigner». And most of all, to keep your mouth shut when you suffer painful experiences as a Black girl in a white majority society.

Celina Bostic made a name for herself as a band member of the Farin Urlaub Racing Team and as a background singer for Max Herre, Udo Lindenberg and Herbert Grönemeyer. She then formed her own band and wrote her own songs. For a long time, she was seen as a «humorous singer», always optimistic and life affirming. But in view of the ongoing shift in what can be said and the unrelenting discrimination against people of colour, she no longer wants to be the artist who smiles and turns a blind eye to everything unpleasant.

She wants to shake things up, she wants to empower people, she wants to be loud. For her own salvation, the well-being of her children but also for the people whose voices are not heard. She does this by taking us by the hand and sharing her own personal story and experiences of being a Black woman in Germany.

This concert is part of the racism-critical work at Dampfzentrale Bern. Further information here.
