On September 1st between 17:30 and 19:30, a specialist from Gioia Cares will be offering free childcare for children up to the age of 10. In our dance studio, children will find a wide range of activities for playing, crafting, colouring and running around. Registration is required: willkommen@dampfzentrale.ch
The new Dampfzentrale series brings authors together with artists on stage. Authors read from their books, artists relate, respond or react to the work.
These readings are different – they are performative and include poetry, music or dance. Each evening harbours something special. «Seite an Seite» creates a space for moving encounters between literature and art, author and performer, the audience and the stage guests.
In the opening event, we delve into the «middle of life» with Barbara Bleisch and Ariane von Graffenried and devote ourselves philosophically and lyrically to the best years.

Mitte des Lebens. Eine Philosophie der besten Jahre
At some point in life, many things are decided: who we love, where we work, how we live. Some are happy to have arrived – others are afraid of getting stuck in a life full of routines and wonder if that’s it. How do we find new goals in life when much has been achieved? How do we deal with the fact that time horizons are slowly narrowing and some trains have now left the station? Philosophically sound and full of references from everyday life, Barbara Bleisch reflects on life experience, lightness and serenity. She counters the cliché of the «midlife crisis» with a philosophy of midlife that leads us into the existential questions of our decades as adults – and into the best time of our lives.
Barbara Bleisch is a philosopher, journalist and author. She is known to many as the presenter of SRF’s Sternstunde Philosophie programme. She is passionate about the risks involved in thinking, which she has also been inspiring audiences with at the Dampfzentrale since 2020.
Ariane von Graffenried
Ariane von Graffenried is a writer and theatre scholar. She appears as a spoken word performer in the duo «Fitzgerald & Rimini». Her texts have been honoured several times, most recently with the Grand Literature Prize of the City and Canton of Bern.
