“Honest, open dialogue has become precarious” says the well-known philosopher, author and presenter Barbara Bleisch.
She counters this finding with the “Barbara Bleisch meets …” series at Dampfzentrale. Following the great success of the last three years, the intensive discussions with inspiring personalities on topics that drive society are entering their fourth edition.
In March 2024, Barbara Bleisch will meet author and journalist Daniel Schreiber: his book “Nüchtern: Über das Trinken und das Glück” (Sober: About drinking and happiness) was published by Hanser Berlin in 2014, followed three years later by “Zuhause – die Suche nach dem Ort an dem wir leben wollen” (Home – the search for the place where we want to live). His book “Allein” (Alone), published in September 2021, became a longseller, just like its predecessors. During his six-year stay in New York, he wrote the highly acclaimed biography “Susan Sontag. Geist und Glamour” (Susan Sontag. Spirit and Glamour). Daniel Schreiber writes for national and international publications such as DIE ZEIT and MOUSSE and regularly translates from English, including the authors Mary Gaitskill and Garth Greenwell. Since 2022, the bestselling author has been presenting artists who move him personally every month in his column “Was mich berührt” (“What touches me”) for Weltkunst. His latest book “Die Zeit der Verluste” (The time of losses) was published in November 2023, also by Hanser Berlin.
Barbara Bleisch, Dr phil., studied philosophy, German and religious studies in Zurich, Basel and Tübingen and completed her doctorate at the Ethics Centre of the University of Zurich. She has hosted the “Sternstunde Philosophie” programme on Swiss radio and television SRF since 2010 and has been a columnist for the “Tages-Anzeiger” newspaper since 2018.
Bleisch is a member of the Ethics Centre at the University of Zurich and teaches ethics in various university further education programmes. She is also a member of the jury for the Tractatus Prize for Philosophical Essay Writing.
Her most recent publications include “Kinder wollen” (Kids Want) together with Andrea Büchler (Hanser), “Warum wir unseren Eltern nichts schulden” (Why we owe our parents nothing, Hanser), “Familiäre Pflichten” (Family obligations, Suhrkamp) and “Ethische Entscheidungsfindung” (Ethical decision-making, Versus).
