Time: During festival centre opening hours
Since 2022, director Kathrin Yvonne Bigler and sound designer Christine Hasler have been exploring grief, perceptions of time and «walking» in their performance project GOLD. To achieve their objective, they guided the audience through the forest on several “silent walks”, accompanied by audio recordings. The final audio work resulting from a three-year collaboration with Dampfzentrale is dedicated to «solastalgia».
During Tanz in Bern, twelve short audio recordings – 12 songs – about this specific grief will be audible in the foyer: In contrast to nostalgia – the longing or sadness felt when someone is away from their beloved home – solastalgia describes the suffering experienced by people as a result of environmental changes when they remain rooted in their homeland.
«Solastalgia – 12 Songs» fits nicely into this year’s pleasurable Tanz in Bern: an installation about the sensuality of hearing/listening that allows you to experience solastalgia in your own body.
And perhaps because hope is something we should all be reflecting on right now.
